This award winning video was developed in 2006 by Ogilvy & Mather as part of the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty marketing campaign. I share it here because I find it to be truly eye opening. As an amateur photographer, I've always thought that there are no "ugly" people, just bad photographers. Beauty comes in many forms, but we're generally fed very homogeneous images of beauty in advertising. This video takes an attractive, but imperfect, woman and, through makeup, lighting and digital modifications turns her into the stereotypical "cover girl". It speaks volumes to just how synthetic the images of perfection we see daily actually are.
